How to share mobile internet using Android WiFi HotSpot feature

Do you frequently visit places with no Wi-Fi facility? Or is your home network frequently drops out? Whatever your condition, you can now share mobile internet and connect to the Web no matter where you are if you have your smartphone with activated mobile data functionality with you. It is possible to turn your smartphone into a portable Wi-Fi hotspot that uses your 3G or 4G connectivity to access the Web. This feature is called Hotspot. This feature was introduced to android when Froyo (Android version 2.2) was introduced so the devices running Éclair (Android version 2.1) and below must download and use 3rd party tethering app such as PDANet+.

Here’s how to share mobile internet using android wifi HotSpot / Tethering feature.

Note that I am using Sony Xperia P running on CyanogenMod 11 (KitKat) for this tutorial but every other smartphones should have similar or same interface.

Step 1
Open you System Settings app from your app drawer or by tapping on gear like icon on the notification bar. Tap on More.
Step 2
Tap on Wireless & Networks and then on Tethering & Portable hotspot.
Step 3
Tap to check the box next to Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot.
Step 4
Tap to open Wi-Fi hotspot settings to edit the network name and to assign a password for security.
Step 5
Now you can see your smartphone on the list of available wireless connections on your PC or laptop. Click connect, enter the password you’ve assigned.

Once connected, you will be able to access the internet and browse the Web using you phone’s 3G or 4G connection on your PC or laptop.
