How to Root Samsung Galaxy S5

Chainfire has created an exploit to root several (not all) versions of Samsung Galaxy S5 including some international versions. Here’s how to Root Samsung Galaxy S5.

How to Root Samsung Galaxy S5

Step 1: Go to Chainfire’s XDA Developers post and download the correct version of CF Auto Root for your device. Currently supported versions are:

  • SM-G900F (International Qualcomm)
  • SM-G900H (International Exynos)
  • SM-G900I (Oceania)
  • SM-G900L (Korea)
  • SM-G900M (South and Middle America)
  • SM-G900R4 (US Cellular)
  • SM-G900T (T-Mobile US)
  • SM-G900P (Sprint)
  • SM-G900T1 (Metro PCS)
  • SM-G900W8 (Canada)
  • SM-G900S (Korea)
  • SM-G901F
  • SM-G906K
  • SM-G906L
  • SM-G906S

Step 2: Extract the CF Auto Root Zip.Root Samsung Galaxy S5

Step 3: Download and install Odin.

Step 4: Put the extracted CF Auto Root .tar.md5 file inside Odin’s folder.

Step 5: Run Odin as Administrator by right clicking Odin and clicking on ‘Run as administrator’.

Step 4: Click on the PDA button and choose the CF Auto Root .tar.md5 file.

Step 5: Turn off the phone.

Step 6: Press and hold the Volume down, Power and Home buttons until you see a Warning screen come up.

Step 7: Tap the Volume Up button to continue.

Step 8: Connect your phone to your computer via USB.

Step 9: In Odin, make sure the ‘Re-Partition’ option is unchecked.

Step 10: Click on Start and wait for it to finishing flashing and restart.

Step 11: Install Root Checker from the Play Store and Tap on ‘Verify Root’. You should as ‘Congratulations’ screen.

The method of rooting AT&T and Verizon versions of Samsung Galaxy S5 is different. Here’s how to root these versions.

Step 1: Go to Settings > Security > Check Unknown sources

Step 2: Open your Browser and navigate to TowelRoot.com.

Step 3: Tap on the icon on the center of the page to download.

Step 4: Install once the download is complete.

Step 5: Open Towel Root.

Step 6: Tap on Make It Ra1n.

Step 7: Your phone is now rooted.

Step 8: Search and install SuperSU from the Play Store.

Step 9: Open SuperSU and let it install the binaries.

Step 10: Search and install Root Checker from the Play Store.

Step 11: Open it and tap on Verify Root. You should see ‘Congratulations! Your device has root access!’ message.

Have patience if your version of Samsung Galaxy S5 is not yet supported. Developers are working on it and you will be able to root Samsung Galaxy S5 in no time.
