Gionee has been providing good mid and high end phones at a reasonable price, though it is not available worldwide. The Chinese smartphone giant has been making its products available only in some countries, where they are appreciated well though. The last model, the Gionee Elife S5.5 was really a ultra thin smartphone measuring only 5.6 mm in thickness. It was the good fact that it had high-end specs, and it was sold well too. Now is the time that Gionee has announced to manufacture a smartphone more thin than the Elife S5.5, and which will be the thinnest smartphone ever, as announced by Gionee.
The upcoming Gionee Smartphone, which is codenamed as GN9005, will be only 5 mm thin, and this will make this smartphone the thinnest smartphone ever. This will most probably not be a Gionee Flagship though, since it will reportedly have the mid-range specs (and its a sad part for the thin high-end smartphone lovers). As the specifications of the upcoming Gionee Android smartphone, this will have a 4.8 inches 720p display, running on a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor. There will be 1 GB of RAM for application handling, which is only OK for light users (the RAM usage is to go further with the ART in Android, and hence, it makes the RAM further unacceptable). The internal memory will be of 16 GB, with a microSD card slot. There will be a 8 MP rear camera for photo and videography, and a 5 MP front camera for video calls and selfies. The juice for running all these will be provided by a 2,050 mAh battery, which is also not cool. For the software part, the phone will have Android KitKat OS, which is customized to Amigo OS by Gionee in its smartphones.
The ‘thinnest smartphone ever’ tagline seems to be lovely, and the smartphone’s specifications does not impress us at all since they are quite old. The phone will, however, sell good if the pricing is done competitively, since Gionee has not yet made a brand value of its own and the users of the most parts of the world do not even know its name. The official announcement is not yet done, and lets hope, there will be some changes in the specs at the release time, or Gionee may launch a flagship with the same thickness with high-end specs and reasonable pricing, which can truly be called ‘the best thinnest smartphone ever’.
