In my opinion, Google messages have improved a lot since its debut. It comes with all the essential features to make your chatting and messaging experience as smooth and convenient as possible. Features such as RCS, easy sharing, rich text, and more make it one of the best messaging apps there is for Android. As per my experience, it is better than the default SMS apps that come with Android devices. Google Messages or just Messages have a Chat feature that adds typing indicator and read receipts when enabled. The feature needs to be enabled and set up (I’ll show you how). But some users are having trouble setting it up. They have stated that the status gets stuck at setting up. This tutorial ensures you resolve that issue. Here’s how to fix Google chat stuck at setting up.
Fix Google Chat Stuck at Setting Up
Before we get to the fixing part, let’s find out how you can enable it first. Google chat feature is an extremely convenient feature that I recommend everyone to use. Let’s look at how you can enable it. Make sure you have your SIM in your Android and the Messages app is updated.
- Open Messages.
- Tap on the 3-dot menu.
- Select Settings.
- Search for Chat Features and enable it.
- Tap on Verify Number.
- Insert the verification code you received.
If everything goes smoothly then you’re done. This may take some time to enable. Adding the verification code will change the status from Setting Up to Connected. This is where some users are facing the problem. Now let’s look at the troubleshooting steps. Make sure you restart your phone and try to set it up again before following the troubleshooting steps.
Setup Call and Messages preferences
This is for checking or setting up your SIM card. For some reason, if your SIM is not active, you will have a problem verifying the Google chat feature.
- Open Settings.
- Tap on Network & Internet.
- Select SIM cards.
- Make sure you have enabled your SIM(s). If it is disabled then you won’t receive any calls or messages.
This method is particularly useful if you have a dual sim.
Default Messages App
Sometimes changing the default messaging app can fix the issue with Google Chat. You can use any 3rd party messaging apps or you can just use the messages app that came with your Android.
- Go to Settings.
- Open Apps
- Tap on Default Apps.
- Search for the SMS app and tap on it.
- Choose another messaging app.
- Restart your device.
- After your device is booted up, repeat steps 1 to 4 but select the Google Messages app instead.
- Now try to activate Google chat features.
Clear Data
Sometimes it is the Carrier Storage services app that is causing the issue. Clearing its storage can fix the issue.
- Open Settings.
- Tap on Apps.
- Select All Apps or Show System Apps or something similar.
- Locate Carrier Services and tap on it.
- Tap on Clear Storage.
- Restart your phone and try to enable chat features again.
Performing one or all of the methods can fix the chat features status issue. Hope we could help.
