How to Fix Google App Crashing

Google app comes pre-loaded on every Android smartphone. Apart from the traditional search function, you absolutely need the Google app for Google Assistant to function. That is among other things that you need the Google app for. Basically, to use the full power of Google on your Android, you will need a Google app. However, there have been numerous complaints about the Google app. They’re reporting that the app keeps on crashing and becomes basically unusable. Fix Google App Crashing

Before you try out the fixes, make sure you restart your device if you haven’t already. Actually, you do this first every time you face an issue on your Android device. Reinstall Web View

Android Web View app is required by application to display external weblink directly within the app. Google app required this app for the same purpose. So, a faulty Web View app could cause the Google app to crash. You cannot totally uninstall the Web View app but you can uninstall its updates. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open Google Play Store.
  2. Search for Android System Webview. The app we’re looking for is usually the first on the list.
  3. Tap on it to get into its Play Store page. You will see an uninstall button. Tap this to uninstall the app’s updates.
  4. Restart the device.
  5. After the device boots up, open Google App to check if the issue is gone. You can update the Webview app again.
  6. Follow Steps 1 and 2 to update the app. You will see an Update button.
  7. Tap on the Update button to install the recent updates.

Check to see if the issue returned. If it didn’t then you’re done. If it did, then you have to wait for Google to roll out an update. Meanwhile, you can uninstall the updates and keep using Google App as usual.

Reinstall Google App

If the Web View app is not the culprit here, then it must be the Google app itself. We’ll need to reinstall the recent updates. Follow the steps:

  1. Open Google Play Store app.
  2. Search for Google.
  3. Tap on the first entry.
  4. You’ll see an uninstall button. Tap on it to remove any recent Google App updates.
  5. Do not update the app yet. Restart your device first.
  6. Once the device has booted, use the Google App again to check if the issue is gone.
  7. Go to Play Store to update the app. If it works, then you’re done. If the issue is still there after you’ve updated the app, then you have no choice but to wait for Google to roll out an update to fix the problem.

Clear Data and Cache

If any Android app keeps crashing, then clearing its cache and data is a great course of action. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap on Apps.
  3. Go to All apps (this might vary from model to model).
  4. Find Google app.
  5. Tap on it and then tap on the Clear Cache button.
  6. Now tap the Clear Data button.
  7. Restart your device.
