I don’t even need to say how important a keyboard is for a smartphone. What you do with your Android device gets seriously limited if you cannot use a keyboard. No keyboard means no social media, no messages, no texts, nothing. Like any software, the keyboard is not impervious to bugs and errors. Gboard has become the default keyboard for most of the Android devices you see today. Manufactures still have their own keyboards but most of you probably use Gboard anyway. Gboard is a good piece of software but sometimes it might annoy you by deciding to stop working and throwing out an error. But don’t worry, we have a couple of solutions you can try. Here’s how to fix Gboard has stopped working error.
Fix Gboard Has Stopped Working Error
There are a couple of easy fixes you can perform to make your Gboard working again. But first, check if there is an update on the Google Play Store. Let’s look at the solutions.
Forced Restart
This is the first thing you should try when trying to fix the “Unfortunately Gboard has stopped working” error. Force stopping helps fix the faulty keyboard by killing its processes. The next time you start the keyboard, it will be as good as new. Forced stopping Gboard will also stop it from accessing its cache files. To force stop Gboard:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps & Notifications.
- Depending on the device, tap on Show All Apps or See All Apps, or something similar.
- Find and tap on Gboard.
- Tap on Force Stop.
- Open any app that uses a keyboard and see if the error is gone.
Re-enable Gboard
This is helpful if you use multiple keyboards for different purposes. Frequently switching between keyboards may cause Gboard to bug out and throw out the error. In this case, you will need to disable and re-enable Gboard. Follow the steps below:
- Open Settings.
- Go to System and then tap on Languages.
- Tap on Virtual Keyboard.
- Now, press Manage Keyboards.
- Tap on the toggle next to Gboard to disable it. Tap on it again to enable Gboard.
Clear Cache
Cache plays a huge role in the smooth operation of any app. And unfortunately, a bad cache can cause bugs and errors. To clear Gboard’s cache:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap on Apps.
- Select Show all apps or See all apps. This depends on the device you’re using.
- Find Gboard from the list.
- Tap on Storage & cache and then press the Clear Cache button. On some devices, the clear cache button is no the bottom of the app info page.
One of the solutions above will surely fix the Gboard that has stopped working error. Hope we could help.
