“Today, we’re introducing three revolutionary products. The first one is a widescreen iPod with touch controls. The second is a revolutionary mobile phone. And the third is a breakthrough internet communications device. So, three things: a widescreen iPod with touch controls; a revolutionary mobile phone; and a breakthrough internet communications device. An iPod, a phone, and an internet communicator. An iPod, a phone–are you getting it? These are not three separate devices. This is one device, and we are calling it … iPhone.” In a keynote address on January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs unveiled the original iPhone to the world and the rest as they say, is history.

iPhone 8 - concept design

2017 marks the iPhone’s 10th anniversary and Apple is planning something special. With less than a week to go for the official launch of the iPhone 8, we have come across a lot of rumors about the device, so we know what to expect when it comes to the design and features.

This year, for the first time, Apple will unveil three models of the iPhone: an updated iPhone 7, an updated iPhone 7 Plus and the star of the show with an OLED Display, all new design and an edge-to-edge display. Apple will probably call them the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone Edition.

The next iteration of the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus will have the same screens as of the current ones: 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch LCD screens. Whereas the casing will change from aluminum to stainless steel borders, glass front and backs. The color options will be reduced to black, white, and a single version of a new gold. Besides the usual speed boost, both new models are also expected to feature support for wireless (inductive) charging from a standalone accessory that may not ship at the same time as the new iPhones.

iPhone 8 – Expected features:

  • 5.8″ OLED display
  • Faster A11 processor
  • Glass body
  • Edge-to-edge display
  • Facial Recognition, perhaps replacing Touch ID
  • No Home button
  • Wireless charging

The event is taking place on Tuesday, 12th September at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino. Apart from the iPhones, Apple is expected to unveil a new Apple Watch with LTE Support and a new apple TV with 4K HDR.
