It has been almost a couple of months that the official version Android 5.0 Lollipop has been released by Google. It was released along with Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, and before these devices were available in the market, the US version of Motorola Moto G 2014 had started getting the Lollipop updates, making it the first ever device officially to get the update. Motorola also pushed the updates to some other American countries such as Brazil, but the countries like India was left behind, which is one of the fastest growing market for the company. As Motorola started going slow in terms of providing updates to the Moto owners, the users in India were somewhat disappointed by the company.

However, we kept hope for a long time, and it is not far now. Motorola India had already announced officially that the Indian versions of Moto G and X 2013 and 2014, as well as Moto E will be getting the update very soon. We do not know about other phones yet, but for the Moto G 2014, the soak test has already started. The users who were so desperate to have Lollipop in their device even flashed their phone with ROMs based on Lollipop version such as Titan ROM, and the users who have applied for the soak test are currently using the test version of Lollipop in their phones.

Well, all comes is desperation. If you are also the one who is eagerly waiting, and can’t wait any more for the Lollipop update in your Moto G 2014, you need not to worry, there is now an easier method. You need not to unlock the bootloader, or root your phone, or flash the ROMs and nothing. In XDA-developers’ forum, the user ravi.avancha has posted about a method by which your phone can officially be updated to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. The update is the captured version of soak test, and is almost like (if not is) the official version of update.

Ravi mentions: “This Works only with Moto g XT1068(indian model) Model.you should be on Kitkat with build number:KXB21.85-23 and system version:21.11.23 to apply this update…please dont try this on any other model”.

This means, if you are using the Moto G 2014 of version other than XT1068 or which have build number and system version other than mentioned this is useless for you. But if you are outside India, and your phone fulfills the criteria, then you can use this method to update.

Follow the following methods to install Lollipop in your Moto G 2014:

  1. Download the zip file from this link in your computer, or your mobile.
  2. Transfer the file to your phone’s internal memory or SD card, whichever is available.
  3. Go to your phone’s Settings > About phone > System Updates.
  4. You will now get a notification, saying you have a update available.
  5. Click ‘Yes, I’m in’, and then follow the given instructions.
  6. You will get Lollipop in your Moto G 2014, within a few minutes, with the great material design and all.

That’s it. You can enjoy the official version update of Lollipop in your Moto G 2014, before your manufacturer provides you. You need not to worry, even though it is a soak test version, it is bug free (I’m yet to find one though, will update about it if I find). The 5.0.2 version is itself a bug-free version of Android Lollipop from Google, and that is what make it less likely to have the bugs. With this update, Motorola seems to skip the versions of 5.0 and 5.0.1, updating the Moto devices directly to 5.0.2. The Android OS in Motorola is near-stock one (only some added software features), and hence you can enjoy the fluid experience of Lollipop and its material design along with various added features, and ART runtime (which is fast than ever).

Have you installed the Lollipop in your Moto G 2014 this way? Or did your phone got the official update by Motorola already? Did you find any bugs yet? You an leave your opinion in the comment section below.

    • Cechi, did you try saving that to your phone’s internal memory? If you haven’t try that. I’ve updated my phone through the same proess. Also, do not forget to check if your Moto G 2014 meets the criteria given.
